Still learning, but will try not to restart my diskless box unless I absolutely have to. Andrew may have some further good ideas on what the heck its doing as I don't know how to troubleshoot NFS on BSD underneath freenas yet. Maybe I'll look at Storage Server, maybe not. That could be easy for testing and learning purpose at your home or office testing lab. File transfer speeds are also pretty good over my newly installed Gigabit network. The latest version of FreeNAS is having totally different interface to manage and create iSCSI disks than earlier versions.
